The Validity of Safety Goals

The aim of the project is to find out and describe the basis for the safety goals currently in use in Finland and Sweden. The current status internationally will be described both in the nuclear industry and in some other industrial areas, e.g., the off-shore oil industry. The relevance and robustness of the safety goals when applied to PSA:s of different scopes will be discussed, as well as a number of specific problems related to the definition and use of safety goals.

The project was initiated in late 2005 with the aim to discuss and document current views on the use of safety goals, including benefits, problems and interpretation. It is co-financed by NKS (50%) and the members of NPSAG (50%). RELCON is the activity leader, and the project will be performed by RELCON and VTT.
